Hottest Korean Make Up Products
Let’s face it. I would buy anything Jeon Ji Hyeon endorses. I would buy anything she claims to use to look the way she does. Dewy baby skin, clear bright eyes, just a tinge of flush on the cheeks and that just bitten lip – “I-woke-up-looking-this-beautiful” look. I admit it would take me a lot more than just buying beauty products to look like her, but hey, if we have the right tools, we are at least halfway there! So, let me recommend you the hottest products to get right now in Korea. If you are planning a trip there, jot these down. If you have a friend going there, send her this link!
1. The Face
Well, not exactly THE face, I meant the base, the foundation, the most important part of your make up. BB Cushions have been the latest trend in Korean makeup for the last year and I think its here to stay. To get dewy, translucent skin like Jeon Ji Hyeon, I recommend my current favourite: IOPE Air Cushion XP. It comes in two shades N21 (Fair) and N23 (Light) and has SPF50 protection. This is a very lightweight foundation, and gives that dewy glow that Korean makeup is all about. I also like that it is convenient to bring along for touch up during the day, minus the cakey look when you reapply. Another very popular BB Cushion online is the Hera UV Mist Cushion Ultra Moisture which works the same way as the IOPE one but is claimed to provide a more long lasting coverage. This is also one that I am really looking forward to trying out.
IOPE Air Cushion XP
For even better looking skin, I am going to recommend this very interesting product I found on my trip to Seoul last December. Its the Etude House Beauty Shot Face Blur. It’s advertised as a cream that smooths out your skin, minimize pores and brightens the complexion. In short, its the Instagram filter that makes you look like a million bucks! In truth, its somewhere between a primer and a corrector. Its a light peach colour that blends very well into the skin, and leaves a soft sheen – brightening up your face. Apply this beneath your BB Cushions or BB Creams.
2. Eye Love You
Park Sora for 3ce
If you’ve been to the 3ce store in Hongdae, then you know 3ce is out-of-this-world popular with just about everybody. I am not such a huge fan of some of their lipsticks because I find them a little drying, it also makes my lips peel. I have to admit though, I am a great fan of their eye pigments! My top favourites are: Golden Glow (intense shimmery yellow gold), Uranus (shimmering brown), Saturn (shimmery burgundy) and Elice (pinkish nude shimmer). They are at 11,000 KRW a pop.
There are also two items that are on my must-buy list whenever I go to Korea. The CLIO Kill Black Waterproof Brush Liner in both Black and Brown. This is my holy grail eyeliner. I have tried a lot of pencil and liquid eyeliners in the past, including the Benefit Push Up Liner, but this one from CLIO is my absolute favourite. Its extremely easy to use, waterproof and allows me to go for a either a natural precise look or a more dramatic look.
The other item that I have been repurchasing for is the CLIO Gelpresso Waterproof Pencil Liners. It comes in a variety of colours, as shown below. Dark Choco is a dream – its a warm chocolate brown with golden sparkles in them. I also like Golden Khaki when I want to do a darker smoky eye look. I use Beige Shine on the inner under eye to create the bright-eyed look. I would also recommend the Etude House Play 101 Pencil #4 for the inner under eye (which I love to use because its so sparkly), but the CLIO one glides on easier (its gel!).

Yoon Eun Hye wearing NARS Schiap
In 2012, it was the NARS Schiap that Yoon Eun Hye wore in the drama Lie To Me that was sold out. I managed to get one (thanks to my friend) in Bangkok. Last year, YSL Pur Couture #52 sold out world wide due to the phenomenal success of You Who Came From The Stars. My friend’s husband flew all the way to Canada and it was sold out (!), the salesperson asked him, “Oh! Is that the shade that some Korean actress wore? We sold out.” Gasp! It is still too early to say which lip stick is going to sell out this year, but if you are heading to Korea, you have to buy a lipstick/liptint/lipglass/lip lacquer. They have so many variations, its hard to keep up. These are my current favourites:
- IOPE Waterfit Lipstick #44: You probably saw this one coming. Also worn by Cheon Song Yi in the hit drama, the lesser known but still sold out lipstick from IOPE is a very sweet pink. It looks like you were born with lips that looked like petals from a flower. Sorry for that. But yes, you got the idea. I am in love with this. Its very moisturizing and keeps your lips looking plump and juicy. A lovely pink sheen, just enough to get that bitten lip look.
- 3ce #403 Glass Red: So, I just ranted a little above that I am not a fan of 3ce’s lipstick. So why this? Well, this is not really a lipstick but more of a lip tint in a stick form. On days when I don’t have makeup on but don’t want to look like I’m about to faint, I put this one on. It gives you just that bit of colour on your lips, looks really natural, kind of like if you just ate the Sichuan Mala Stir Fry (but nicer!). I carry this with me everywhere, because its so easy to put on and absolutely foolproof!
- Laneige Water Drop Tint: Personally, I have not tried this but I am dying to. Would you look at the picture above! I would love to try Pure Pink, Peach Coral and Scarlet Red and Real Orange and… It has a high gloss finish and very moisturizing. I cannot share too much about this since I don’t have any experience with it, but this is going straight into my next shopping list in Korea! If you have tried this before, I’d love to hear what you think about it.
I hope this has been informative and helpful for you. Thank you for reading this very long post!
