The Amazing Korean Mud Heat Pack (황토찜질팩)

Remember these? The conventional water heat bags where you need to boil water and get it into the water heat bag which lasts but 5 seconds in a cold winter.

When the girlfriend first arrived in Korea and experienced her first freezing winter (-20 deg Celsius!), she discovered this wonderful invention when her Korean host shoved this mudbag out of nowhere into the microwave and then shoved it into her lap. It stayed warm but not scalding for a really long time. Perfect for alleviating neck cramps and stomach cramps (for the ladies). Yes, it’s microwaveable, reusable and stays warm for a long time.

We’re still not sure if this originated from Korea itself, but we’ve yet to see it anywhere else. Apparently, the most common way to get it is either as a gift, or via department stores/home shopping. The host did mention it’s a rather “ahjumma” item. But who cares, it’s really convenient and a definite life saver! ^^
