[Korean Monthly 14th Series] Black Day in Korea

So Valentine’s Day (14th Feb) and White Day (14th Mar) whizzed past without a hitch in Korea this year as well.

What happens to the rejected singles? The answer is: Black Day (14th April).

In Korea, we have this thing called Black Day 블랙데이(14th Apr) where all sad single men and women eat Black Noodles (JjaJangmyeon : 짜장면) to mourn over their ‘ #foreveralone ‘ status, well, at least for the time being, since Koreans don’t really stay single for long periods of time generally, with all the nifty “little matchmaking exchanges” like “blind dates”, sogeting.

Actually, JjaJangmyeon originated from China, and the Korean adaptation of the black noodles hardly has any meat in it, just lots of onions and black sauce, sad indeed fit for those in melancholy. Just look at the sad black mess below. In fact, one can imagine a lonely violin tune playing in the background whilst one eats this in solitary silence. Oh, by the way, the JjaJangmyeon is probably the only dish that allows free home delivery below 10,000 won value in Korea; each bowl of JjaJangmyeon is around 4,000 -6,000 won.

Hope all sad singles find a partner soon!
